WHAT IS IT?

Renewable energy consumption data comes from the Energy Information Administration showing the amount of renewable energy that is used by sector in the U.S. economy. There are several different kinds of renewable energy sources, with the most common being wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal. The data is not seasonally adjusted and is reported in trillions BTU. SONAR tracks natural gas consumption for the transportation sector

In SONAR, fossil fuel consumption is tracked at the following granularities:

COMM – commercial
IDST – industrial
TRAN – transportation

Economists, energy market analysts

WHAT DOES IT TELL ME?

The renewable energy data can be used to analyze trends relative to fossil fuel consumption. It is useful to see how quickly renewable energy is taking share by sector in the economy.
