A monthly measure of the number of average minutes a truck spends inside a shipper or receiver location for the purposes of unloading and loading. This includes distribution centers, sea ports (WAIT.USLAX – Port of Los Angeles), airport air cargo facilities (WAIT.KLAX – Los Angeles airport), railroad classification yards and intermodal ramps (WAITRR.CHI – Chicago wait time).
Wait time is expressed as the average number of minutes trucks and drivers spend unloading and loading in a 3-digit zipcode or Key Market Area (KMA) each month. The amount of time a driver spends on-duty/non-driving during the loading and unloading process may or may not include detention time i.e. time the carrier bills the shippers for excessive dock time over an above the free period allowed for loading and unloading.
