FreightWaves Customer SuccessMacro Economic Indicators

What is it?

The nominal GDP data is annual data from the World Bank that contains the total value of all final goods and services produced in the economy for the given year. Nominal GDP is collected in SONAR for every country and expressed in billions of USD. Unlike the real GDP data in SONAR (RGDP.USA), the nominal GDP data is not adjusted for inflation

What does it tell me?

Because the nominal GDP figures are not adjusted for inflation, growth in countries can be distorted by inflation. However, nominal GDP is useful to show the relative size of different economies. Since all of the data is expressed in USD, these kinds of cross-country comparisons are possible.
