WHAT IS IT?

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) is a monthly measure that gauges overall economic activity throughout the U.S. It uses a weighted average of 85 monthly indicators of national economic activity, including; production and income; employment, unemployment, and hours; personal consumption and housing; and sales, orders, and inventories.

WHAT DOES IT TELL ME?

The CFNAI is a measure overall economic activity in the country. It is also useful for calculating future economic activity and inflationary levels in the U.S.
